Over 176 Naval ships participated in the battle and invasion of Okinawa. The Aberdeen Victory (later the U.S.S. Altair) was one of these ships and was awarded a Battle Star. Allied forces suffered over 49,000 casualties while the Japanese had over 100,000 casualties. Over 700 Japanese kamikaze planes attacked the Naval Fleet during the battle.
